‘Deadpool’ Debut Breaks President’s Day Weekend Box Office Record at $130 Million

Deadpool has been crushing box office numbers since Wednesday, when it came in internationally at $12 million, and added another $12.7 million on top of that during it’s Thursday night preview, breaking two preview records in the process. Ryan Reynold’s knew he has something with this movie, but I highly doubt he knew exactly what he had on his hands: a powerhouse.

Deadpool’s (genius) media blitz during the few months before the movie’s premier probably played a large part in it’s initial box-office success.

Deadpool is on track to break $130 million for it’s opening weekend, shattering any previous President’s Day opening weekend that has come before it. Along with shattering records, it also shattered Fox’s estimate for the movie, which came in at $60-$65 million for it’s opening weekend. It has already doubled that estimate. Fox, just because Fantastic 4 was terrible doesn’t mean all your endeavors are worthless.

Will Deadpool continue to rake in the big bucks, or will it steadily plateau as time goes on? Either way, Fox better be ready to throw money at Deadpool 2. We know it’ll make it back right away! (Especially if we get Cable!)
