‘Batman: The Animated Series’ Writer Paul Dini Almost Wrote Live Action Film

Feb 01, 2017
When you think about animated Batman adaptions, chances are the top two that come to mind are Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. Anyone born from 1985-1995 knows both shows very well.

Other than the whole “Batman” thing, the two shows also have one other significant similarity: they’re both brain children of Paul Dini. Fans of animated Dark Knight adaptions know Dini well, as his work was so influential that even modern day interpretations of Bruce Wayne, and his supporting cast, still hold true today.

With all the live action adaptions of the same character, many fans have probably wondered why WB never went to Dini to help pen a script for a Dark Knight film. As it turns out, they did, about 15 years ago.

During a Twitter Q&A, Dini was asked if he had ever been approached about writing a live action film, to which he responded he had a brush with it once that didn’t get very far. Check it out:

Although he admitted that he did not get very far with the idea, just the thought that we almost had a Dini penned script makes my inner fanboy go insane. Dini is responsible for some of the most popular animated Batman stories, and is arguably one of the most influential Batman contributors to date.

Some of Dini’s most infamous work comes from the Animated Series, including co-creating Harley Quinn along with Bruce Timm, and his work on the screenplay for the animated film, Mask of the Phantasm.

Do you wish Dini would have written a live action Batman film? Let us know what you think down below in the comments.
