‘Venom’ Set To Release In 2018.

After the trilogy of which Tobey Maguire was the actor to portray Spider-Man came to an end, Sony relaunched ‘Spider-Man’ in 2012 with Andrew Garfield as the lead. The movies were rushed in order to compete with the established MCU. ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ was loaded with characters around whom a universe could be built around, instead this was a huge disadvantage. Now, Tom Holland took the mantle and joined the MCU in ‘Captain America: Civil War’, later to get his own solo movie ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’

While Sony’s partnership with Marvel Studios made many presume any spin-off in regards of Spider-Man related characters was off table, it appears the studio is moving further regardless. Exhibitor Relations reported that Sony has given ‘Venom’ a 2018 release date, and that Alex Kurtzman will helm the project. The movie will come out on October 5, 2018.

Should ‘Venom’ Join The MCU?

The inevitable question has been asked since the confirmation of the date for the movie. Quite simply, I don’t believe Sony and Marvel should merge their characters together whatsoever. Marvel has spent years creating their own universe and it works nicely, mixing works with Sony could create tension as they both have different ideas and concepts. Another question is being asked, and that’s whether Sony’s version of Venom should merge with Marvel’s Spider-Man. The answer is no, not at all. Not for the reason I just stated but because Tom Holland’s version of Spider-Man hasn’t even been developed at all, we’ve only seen him for all 30 minutes max in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’
