The MCU Has Officially Made A Whopping $12 Billion Worldwide

With the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming currently tearing up the box office, Marvel Studios has reached yet another victory. The production company is sleeping in money at this stage with Sony’s successful third iteration of Spider-Man blowing past all projections, pleasing both fans and critics.

The following success establishes the superhero shared universe as an unprecedented success, pushing the MCU’s bx office gross past $12 billion worldwide over 16 movies. That’s a crazy amount of money for a production company that focuses on the genre of superhero films, which until recent years, wasn’t a hugely successful genre.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is differentiated to the rest of the Marvel movies, as primary company Disney doesn’t make any money from the box office. The deal with SOny meant that Spider-Man rights holders contracted Marvel Studios to make their movie and concentrate on creating the character in their universe, with Sony keeping the profits.
